I try to spend money really conspicuously and buy lots of crazy things. Sadly, as a scientist, I don’t have enough money to live a truly debauched lifestyle so I’m frequently stuck being fsically prudent. *sigh*

Yes I would spend the money wisely, I would donate it to my local secondary school for their science activities. As they have some cash of their own I think that they would have enough to achieve lots of nice activities such as inviting speakers or doing trips to museums or laboratories.

If I won the prize money, I hope I would spend it wisely! I’d like to organise a schools event where I could work with human beatboxers to get students thinking about the brain and sounds. Do you think that sounds like a fun way to talk about science?

I don’t think it’s a good idea for people to have to pay for their own research or work projects. It’s important to try and keep work and life separate, and it would be quite stressful if we had to rely on our own funds to do the work we wanted – under extreme pressure this might encourage people to make up results, for example. For my planned schools event there are several other sources of funding available that I could apply for in order to raise enough money, so I would do my very best to make sure I could go ahead with my ‘beatboxing brains’ day!
