I studied the brain because I was curious about human behaviour with sound and speech. I chose to specialise in cognitive neuroscience and brain imaging because I preferred thinking about the bigger picture and issues like ‘how do we understand speech?’ rather than ‘how does this protein work?’, even though the cellular work is still fascinating. Truth is, I never really got on very well in cell biology practicals either!

Are there other specialties? I wonder why — brains are obviously the coolest!
