University College London pays my salary. The money to do this comes from several sources including grants that I’ve received, government funding to support universities, student tuitions, etc.

I have a salary that I receive from the university where I work (UCL). I’m paid to assist in carrying out my boss’s research programme, which is funded by the Wellcome Trust.

Most scientists fund there work by writing to government agencies or charities and asking for money to fund their work. This money will then go to the university you work at, who would use some of it to pay your salary and then give you the rest to buy chemicals, equipment etc with to do your work. At the moment my funding comes from a charity called the Wellcome Trust.

I get funding for my research from the government and from a drug company and then to earn money on top of this (as it isn’t very much!) I lecture at different universities and conferences on animal behaviour and I work as a vet.
