People can certainly be born with a high risk of developing schizophrenia, but there are other things that contribute to it as well. Regardless, most people don’t start to show any symptoms until they are in their early 20s.

Most people have about a 1 in 200 chance of developing schiozphrenia, but if you have an identical twin (who has exactly the same genes as you) with schizophrenia then you have about a 40% chance of getting it as well. So the genes you are born with do play a part, but they are not the whole story.
